For my open studio project, i have chosen to do a sculpture. Instead of a one person, movement sculpture like we did in class, I have decided to do a sculpture of two people helping each other maintain a position. Like in the picture above.

Favorite Project

My favorite project this year was the mask project. It was my favorite because we got to explore different cultures, while putting our own spin on the mask. I also liked that we got to see almost every culture, not jut our own. At the end, we got to see other student's cultural masks and we got to know a bit more about them. The mask project had 2 elements of art. Those were color and texture. Some colors represented a certain culture better than others, but we still could choose our own. My mask was a Columbina mask and it was purple and black. Texture wise, you could put on beads, ribbon, feathers, and a special art medium used specifically for creating texture. It is white and a bit clumpy. You spread this medium one the mask with a spatula and when it dries, it creates a bumpy texture. The mask project also had 3 principals of art. These are balance, pattern, and emphasis. Balance is really important in Columbina masks. Feathers, designs, beads, and ribbons are added to these masks. So, you have to be carefully where you put them. Because a large group or feathers and beads in one spot, and the rest of the mask blank will not be a good use of space nor balance. Pattern in Colunbina masks are common. A combination of swirls and dots, thick, thin, an undulating lines. Last but not least, emphasis. If you want to draw attention to a certain part of the mask you put somethin interesting there. Such as feathers in the corner, or designs on the border.

Mobile Building Process

First, I planned out what I wanted to do. I wanted to use the curler on my gold and blue strips. I also wanted to hang them from the dowel. So next I painted a transparent sheet blue. I cut out the strips and curled them. After they were all curled, I painted gd specks. I decided to also hang a bow. Then, I painted the other part of my transparent sheet gold. Next, I cut out a strip of the gold. Image a bow. Last, I put it all together.

Sail Boat Watercolor

This water color painting of sailboats has middle ground, foreground, and background. The sand on the bottom is the foreground, the sailboats and water are in the middle ground, and the light blue sky at the top is the background.

Columbina Mask

I like this  mask because it looks very elegant. I can tell this is a Columbina mask because of the shape of the mask itself  and the eyes. I do understand  the beads. But why are most all of the Columbina masks' eyes very long and short?

African Mask

I can tell that this is an African mask because of the beads for dreads and the shape of the face. The nuetral colors are also a clue that it is an African mask.
